Phoenix Productions is looking for performers ages 8+ for its September 2025 production of Fiddler on the Roof
Audition Dates:
Saturday July 19th 10:00AM – 3:00PM at Phoenix Productions (59 Chestnut St, Red Bank, NJ)
Tuesday, July 22nd 7:00PM – 10:00PM at New Brunswick PAC (9 Livingston St, New Brunswick, NJ 3rd Floor)
Wednesday July 23rd 7:00PM – 10:00PM at Phoenix Productions (59 Chestnut St, Red Bank, NJ)
Some performers may be asked to a call-back on Sunday July 27th between 10:00AM and 3:30PM at Phoenix Productions.
See character descriptions below. All auditionees are asked to prepare the following:
16 bars of their best classic musical theatre or traditional American standard. Please bring your sheet music in the correct key in a notebook or published book for the accompanist.
There will be a mandatory short dance audition for some auditionees – primarily all sons and daughters (including Tevye’s daughters and their suitors). Those wishing to be considered as a bottle dancer, Fyedka, or other Russian characters will be asked to demonstrate additional dance skills. Dance audition video links will be sent one week prior to auditions to all those who sign up.

Performers of all races, gender expressions / preferences and body types are encouraged to audition. Though characters in this production may carry traditional cis names or gender expressions / preferences or historically be portrayed as a particular race, casting will be held with the mindset that any role can potentially be filled by any actor.
Rehearsal dates:
August 5 to September 25, typically three (3) weekday evenings and one (1) weekend day. We are hoping to lock in a Monday, Tuesday, Thursday evening and Saturday daytime rehearsal schedule; however, some additional rehearsals will take place on Sunday late afternoons. More rehearsal days will be required as the production opening approaches. Tech week will be an alternate schedule to allow time off to those who observe Rosh Hoshana – this will impact the weeks leading up to tech to ensure adequate rehearsal time – please be aware that rehearsal conflicts will be taken into consideration when casting.

Tevye
The likeable, hard-working, pious dairyman who always tries to see the positive side of life. He is a proud patriarch and father of five daughters, closely raised according to the old scriptures.

Are you ready to step into the spotlight?
Phoenix Productions is always looking for eager and talented volunteers to sing and dance in our musical productions. Auditions usually take place 6-8 weeks prior to the performance dates listed and casting notices are posted on our website and social channels one month prior to the auditions.

Here are a few helpful hints to make your audition a success!
1. Gather your sheet music! (Don’t have sheet music in your key? Visit www.musicnotes.com or www.sheetmusic.com to purchase and download show music in your key.) Be prepared to sing 16 to 32 bars of a song that shows off your voice.
2. Always choose music that is consistent with the style of the show for which you are auditioning.
3. Make sure to clearly mark your music for the accompanist to show where to begin and end. If you don’t where to start your audition selection, a safe general rule is to count back from the end of the song as this usually shows your performance best.)
4. Practice your audition. Always remember the production team is looking for great performers not just people who can sing.
5. Be prepared to learn a short dance combination. Depending on the show and the wishes of the production team, there may be a dance audition. If so, a combination will be taught at auditions.
6. Be sure to bring or wear suitable dance attire.
